The VAM system also functions as an immobilizer. If someone tries to insert a copy of the key into the ignition, the car security will prevent the engine from starting.
What is an immobilizer?
Thanks to an immobilizer, thieves cant steel your car even if they create a copy of the original vehicle key. An immobilizer can be included in car alarms and other car security systems.
How does the electric immobilizer work?
The principle of the immobilizer consists of an RFID chip reader, which is placed in the cars lock. When the key is inserted into the ignition, the reader reads the keys code. The code is then compared by the cars ECU control unit. If the code isnt recognized, the ECU closes the fuel supply to the engine and the vehicle wont start.
